| Emma McGrail - Personnel Officer |
Whilst studying Law at the University of Reading, Emma was invited to work part-time in a Human Resources department. She welcomed the opportunity to gain practical work experience and found it interesting to see how her employment law knowledge could be applied in the real world. Emma also learned and noted how people, their skills, experience, commitment, motivation and, occasionally, how their problems and concerns, could affect the quality of the workplace environment and the day-to-day running of a business. When she graduated, Emma emerged with a passion for HR and the realisation that she had the commitment and aptitude for working with people to help them realise their true potential.
Emma joined our Personnel Office in 2006 and is responsible for guiding the recruitment, induction, and professional development of our staff. She is currently involved in revising our graduate recruitment programme, employment framework, and performance management processes, in between undertaking a myriad of other operational responsibilities.
Emma observes:
“What initially attracted me to Informed Solutions was how much the Company is prepared to invest in you, both in personal and professional development. For example, the Company has agreed to sponsor me through an MA (Human Resources) which is something I have wanted to do for a while. However, it became evident during the interview process that I was encouraged to explore whatever areas I felt were appropriate. I quickly gained a very good appreciation of the culture and people at Informed Solutions, which I related to immediately. There is a lot of energy, drive, intellect and commitment here - all of which need to be channelled, groomed and developed through strong, supportive leadership. It was also interesting to note how each service group collaborates and makes more effective and efficient the efforts of the other service groups. There are strong shared values and excellent team working skills at all levels.”
“I am really pleased to see how fair, transparent and merit based the Company is, and how you have the opportunity to work towards being given a lot of responsibility early in your career. You can fast track your career progression by demonstrating dependability, commitment and competence, and your efforts are both suitably recognised and rewarded. The opportunities open to you increase even further as you continue to perform well and show initiative. We are offered regular feedback both formally and informally, and we receive structured, annual performance appraisals and professional development guidance to help us identify our individual strengths and support us through any areas that we may need to work on.”
“Recently, we decided to take on and improve our Graduate Recruitment Programme, so, alongside a colleague from the Delivery Management Team, I offered to work on this. It has been challenging but highly satisfying, and I believe we have prepared a fresh and more relevant framework which will attract today’s top graduates, which we intend to groom into tomorrow best talent.”
“The type of consulting work our Company undertakes is challenging and stretches individuals. We recognise that this type of work is demanding and can be pressured – it is not for everybody. However, if you pride yourself on being a committed and competent professional; are career minded and results orientated; thrive on problem solving; work well under pressure within an energised, commercial environment; and, you can’t bear the thought of doing the same thing day in and day out, then there are so many opportunities open to you here at Informed.”
“I joined Informed Solutions because it is, without doubt, the right workplace and the right professional development environment for me. It is also a very exciting time for all of us, as we are in the process of implementing well considered plans to expand the business, both in terms of the number of offices and the types of services that we offer. People here are loyal, committed and truly passionate about our Company culture and reputation, our work, and the difference our efforts make to clients and the success of the assignments we undertake. I honestly like and relate to our people, and I find it satisfying and challenging working here.”
