e-Government Initiative - Central Government

The e-Government initiative requires government bodies to transact business on-line with their customers, partner organisations and other external bodies. In response to this challenge, a leading Central Government agency appointed Informed Solutions as its independent consultants to assist them with their e-Government implementation plans.

The agency was required to implement a centralised and integrated approach to data management that was compliant with e-Government requirements. To prepare suitable recommendations, Informed Solutions completed a review of key business systems within the agency, with particular consideration to the requirements surrounding the metadata framework, open systems standards, and on-line access requirements for internal and external portal applications.

The systems review produced a number of suitable architecture options and a shortlist of market leading technology platforms that could underpin this. The client was extensively involved throughout the assessment and consultation process and was very satisfied with the options proposed. The option selected included use of the latest database technology to store, manage and serve spatial data; appropriate open systems standards based interfaces, such as those of the Open GIS Consortium and e-Government Initiatives; and the specification of a scalable technical environment which complied with emerging web services standards for interoperability.
