For early career professionals the learning never stops. Here at Informed Solutions we highly value the act of ‘giving something back’: of sharing skills with the next generation and helping graduates to thrive in the competitive world of tech. And most excitingly of all, this insight can be shared by everyone and anyone – early career professional, senior pro, or chief executive.
One of our talented colleagues, Ryland Karlovich, shared his experiences as a young professional at the recent Association for Geographic Information (AGI) meeting in Edinburgh. A workshop for the Early Careers Network of the AGI, the event was to provide support to forthcoming graduates. Here at Informed Solutions, Ryland is a key member of the Project Services team, using his technical expertise to help deliver important projects for some of our prestigious clients. Combined with being a graduate of the MSc Geographical Information Science course at the University of Edinburgh, Ryland had a great deal of valuable insight for the several dozen students at the meeting.
In his 15-minute presentation, Ryland detailed his approach to career development. Specifically he spoke about his approach to joining Informed, the use of his technical expertise to deliver solutions for our clients, and his reflections on the transition from university to the workplace. After contributing to the Q&A session, Ryland sat down with several of the attendees and used his experiences as an early career professional to help refine the students’ CVs.
“I was really glad to have been able to take part in an Early Careers Network seminar in Edinburgh, it’s great that the AGI continues to work hard to support all stages of its members’ professional development. We had a good crowd of students in attendance and it was refreshing to see the enthusiasm and genuine desire they had to develop successful and rewarding careers in our industry.”
Here at Informed Solutions we invest in developing the technical skills of people. Take the InformedACADEMY© for instance, or the coaching and development opportunities we offer to all colleagues. Specialist expertise is a core part of our business, and tools like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are valuable for many of our clients. We actively encourage our people to share their experiences, knowledge, skills and passion for GIS and tech more widely. The learning never stops here at Informed, and importantly, we’re genuinely passionate about sharing this with the next generation.
P.S. We’ll soon be posting an update from each of our Communities of Practice, including the GIS group. So, stay tuned!
