Lauren Workman, Technical Consultant, Informed Solutions
Earlier this month and as part of Informed Solutions’ InformedACADEMY™ learning and development programme, my colleague James Proctor and I got the opportunity to attend a 4-day accelerated training course at Firebrand Training and achieve our MB-200 Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 Core certification.
As a leading independent provider of digital transformation, technology, data analytics and systems integration services, Dynamics knowledge and specialisation forms an important part of Informed Solutions’ service offering for a growing global client base seeking digital transformation of their organisations. Recently, Microsoft has completely refreshed its syllabus in this space, and we were some of the first people in the country to attain these new accreditations.
Following a typical university class structure, the course catered to different learning styles and allowed all students to participate in a way that best benefited their own understanding. We were provided with course materials in the form of both on-line books and labs. The books allowed us to prepare and gave more in-depth coverage of areas that was not covered in detail, as part of the training, helping to give a well-rounded understanding of the topic ahead of the course. The labs allowed for practical applications of the theory that was covered, appealing to those of us who are kinaesthetic learners. Both were combined within the lecture style classes, provided by our Instructor, who explained the concepts using real world examples and ensured that we understood the basics before moving onto more complex components.
As part of the company’s commitment to continual learning and development, it was a fantastic opportunity to spend 4 days focusing on an exciting technology, allowing us to not only consolidate our current knowledge but to also gain an understanding of newer aspects of the software and the longer term roadmap. Although intense and at times challenging it was an incredibly worthwhile experience, which gave us a unique chance to diversify our skill sets, especially in an area that is growing in popularity and enrich our future career opportunities.
The training consisted of a deep dive into the new Power Platform and Dynamics 365 Core, preparing us for the new MB-200 exam which forms a key part of the Microsoft Certified Dynamics 365 Customer Service Functional Consultant Associate accreditation.
For preparation, we learned transferable skills such as discovery, planning and analysis as well as learning many aspects vital to configuration in Dynamics 365. Several areas we looked at included new tools for import and export of Data into the system, integration with other services such as Outlook and Office 365, implementing Security and designing the user experience using both Model Driven and Canvas applications. Another area of focus was solution deployment and entity management, which allowed us to undertake management from an environmental level down to a single entity, affording us an opportunity to understand both the big picture and the details that contribute to it. The course helped bring together our understanding of the key areas that allow for a successful implementation of Dynamics 365 and how it can be tailored into a bespoke solution for a variety of projects.
As regards career development, we’re excited to be able to consolidate our skills, joining our experienced Dynamics certified consultants in developing solutions on the very latest technologies to help our clients transform their businesses.
