Last week, Informed were delighted to welcome 3 bright Computer Science students from the University Technical College (UTC) at MediaCity UK to undertake a week of work experience, contributing directly to their studies.
Amy, Saul and Alfie settled quickly into the working life at our Altrincham Offices and were involved in workshops, service group briefings and delivered an internal project which we specifically designed to help develop their coding and problem solving skills. The week was concluded with the students presenting their solution to members of the Informed Team, followed by a send-off (with lots of cake!) where gifts were presented to thank the students for their hard work.
Amy Whitley, work experience student, noted: “It’s been great to experience a real life project using a programming language I haven’t used before. I’ve learnt a lot more than expected by working independently and being outside the classroom environment. I will definitely be able to take the Java skills back to College and this will help with my assessments”.
Saul Mulcrow also added: “I’ve really enjoyed learning a new programming language and it’s been great to have something to show for our week with Informed. It’s also been great to experience the working world and the working atmosphere”.
Technical Consultant, Daniel Rex, worked closely with the students and commented on Friday as follows:
“We were very impressed by the students’ work ethic and initiative, in particular their ability to quickly pick up a new programming language and then build on those skills throughout the week. They handled a challenging piece of work very well concluding with a great presentation today. It was a pleasure to work with such bright individuals and I’d like to wish Amy, Saul and Alfie all the best for the future“.Elizabeth Vega, Global CEO of Informed also offered a short comment as follows:
"If you want to make a real and practical difference to your business... then be an enlightened employer and work with UTC@MediaCityUK"
